Tallangatta Primary School prides itself in promoting healthy eating and lifestyle, and to this end, has developed a school vegetable garden. This garden project is strongly supported by a group of parent helpers and the students’ KGB (Kitchen Garden Brigade).
Food Technology classes are run for all classes on a regular basis by a specialist teacher in our purpose built “kid’s kitchen”. There is strong parental and community involvement in this program, and fresh produce from the garden is used whenever possible in cooking sessions. These sessions involve preparation and cooking of a variety of healthy dishes, safe food handling, the writing of recipes, team work and kitchen safety. This program has proved to be very popular with all year levels, with positive feedback from parents, whose children are now prepared to try different foods and eat more healthily.
